I was just goin' to let the room do it, or throw 'nough power at them so they turn to cinders.

[Tapping a foot against the ground, Remy paused to consider his options. She was one of Xavier's kids, she might be helpful... if he was willing to talk about it. A bit difficult, he was still hurting over the bitching match he had with Rogue, and the shaking of his trust in others again.

But what options did he have.] Ya use to help out with trainin' the other kids back home?

Cinders are easier to sweep up than debris, it's true. [She allowed, before answering his question.]

Yeah. A bit with Kurt and Kitty and Evan, a bit more with all the new recruits. They can be a handful, believe you me.

Take it ya got good results? No maimin' or the like? [Beating around the bush Remy?]

I might, need a hand 'long those lines.

[Hey, weren't you just telling Wanda you didn't hurt women? (badum-tish!)]

Yeah 'no maiming' was generally where we started out with them. [She blinks, a bit surprised, but does her best not to make a big deal out of it. She's pretty sure Remy doesn't ask for help lightly, and the last thing she wants to do is accidentally shut him down.]

[Opening his mouth, Remy began to let out a lie, it was easy enough to do. But he quickly reconsidered, first going ahead with telling her, and trusting she wouldn't freak out on him.

But it didn't mean he had to tell her everything, it still wouldn't be a lie.] Long story. Might be worth a seat, 'nd a drink.

Hm, want to hit the cafe, then? My training can wait.

Was thinkin' more the bar, but guess we can do it ya way as well. [Remy answered, before going to scoop up his coat and slipping it back on.

Heading their way to the cafe, getting their drinks, Remy led the way to a more secluded corner of the building, away from prying eyes and ears.]

[Jean doesn't argue his choice of seats; after all, she got to chose the location, he might as well chose the seats. She cups her chai latte in her hands, enjoying the warmth and smell.]

So. Your powers? [She prompts, her tone easy enough, but her volume low enough to keep the conversation private. ]

When I got my powers, I didn' have good control over them, [Remy pulled out a flask as he spoke, opening it and pouring some of the contents into his coffee, before giving it a stir and taking a sip.] Couldn't charge when I wanted, couldn't stop when I needed to. [He raised a hand to show the sign of surface level burns on his palms.] Lived a half of my teens in gloves so not to make items 'nd people go boom, 'nd the other half in bandages to cope with burnin' my skin off durin' the first half.

Long story short, I had brain surgery to help me control them. 'nd it worked. I got full control from whatever they were developin' 'nto, cut my energy output in half.

[She nods, letting him talk. A lot of his story is familiar. Uncontrollably powers. Dangerous situations. It was, sadly, part and parcel of many a mutant's childhood. Even Jean herself had had a bit of it, though granted, not nearly as bad as many of them did.

She was familiar with his burn scars, having seen them on more than one occasion. However, pointing out people's scars was never the sort of thing that Miss Manners would recommend.

The brain surgery, though.] Wow, Remy. That's-- intense.

Yeah, but desperate times 'nd all that. Couldn't work, my father had taken me off jobs after I vaporized a painting we were retrieving for a client. Was too scared to get close to those I loved, 'case I accidentally charged them. This looked like my only choice.

Thing is, started rethinkin' it all after we got thrown into that battle that it might be better for me to be back at full charge, even with the power limit they got on us. So I got it reversed.

Trouble be... 'm kind back to needin' to learn how to use them 'gain.

Ahhh. A power surge then. I went through one of those recently. [Jean... was not at all sure of Remy's logic. Massive power + control and skill was not lesser than even GREATER power but no guarantee of control. It was his power, though, and it was not up to her to question his motives or methods.] I ended up going much the same route as you; I had the professor put-- blocks in my head, so I could slowly reintroduce myself to the power, a bit at a time.

How has it been, then? Are you finding your years of practice have helped some, or are you back to square one?

It helps, merde it helps. Wouldn't had even thought of doin' this if I didn' 'ready have control over what I was doin' 'fore. Just... not too sure where to take it from here.

Most of my old control practices ain't that advance. Don't blow up something, normally. Need... some guidance I guess, to see what I can do.

Well. I can help with the exercises we give some of the kids. Ray, Amara, even Jubilee. I can also just, you know, be a sounding board. The Professor has one on one sessions with all of us, to discuss our powers, and I'd be lying if I said sometimes just talking doesn't help.

You want to get me talkin'? More than normal? [Remy let out a whistle.] Silly fille. [But...] Merci.

I think I can push beyond what I could normally do, want to be able to do more than just charge an item. 'm sure I can. I got creative with trainin', but kinda buttin' my head 'gainst a brick wall.

Please. I lived with Kitty for over a year. You think I can't handle the likes of your chatter after that? Like, as if. [She mimics Kitty's vernacular for a moment, playfully, before getting back to the subject at hand.]

Your powers are based in the transference of potential energy into kinetic energy, correct? What sort of-- creativity are we talking, here?

Chargin' things I don't normally. Most of the stuff I did before was simple, chargin' the object I was holdin', not what was in the object. Other than to reheat coffee, but even then, it was still heating the mug, not the liquid itself. Transferring the energy through an object and into another behind it.

That 'nd thinkin' just 'cause I can charge solids, why not liquid, merde, or gas. Still all molecules, right?

So far... things just goin' boom. 'nd not that stuff 'm tryin' to make explode.

[She nods, eyebrows going up a bit. Those... are some terrifying goals. ] Good. Good. Good to have steps towards mastery. Maybe hold off on trying to charge the air just yet. That sounds terrifyingly close to "atomic explosion" and I don't think we want to go there, just yet.

When ya say it like that...

That be much more long term. For now, just want to make it through the day without the need of burn cream, or an ice pack. For now, just usin' the energy as it comes to me, but gotta be a better way to manage it than just burnin' it off.

Yes. [Back on track with positivity! ] We could probably try to get one of the tech-heads here to build some sort of power storage device. Burn off your energy by translating it back into potential energy in the form of electricity.

That works for short term, thought rather be able to do it m'self.

...I got an idea. May not be smart. [He takes a moment to think.] Isn't smart, at all. Down right dangerous. Which... ain't really a problem here, with the whole reset button we got goin' on here.

It 'long the lines of chargin' air, 'nd multi-layerin' chargin'. A kinetic shield. Can light it up 'nytime I need it, burns off excess without a big light show.

What-- like a force field? You're right, that does sound dangerous. But I think that's sort of the name of the game with your powers. [She allowed, with a smile.] That's a good goal to work towards, though. Maybe start a little smaller, though; Charge something touching something you're touching, by passing the charge though it. Then try and charge that thing without charging the intermediary object. ... Then maybe charge something without touching it at all?

Don't quite get that last one, Jeanie. Ya sayin' chargin' without havin' physical contact with 'nything? [That... that wasn't something Remy even considered possible for his powers. But then again, he was never at this level before.]

That... that one will be a challenge. 'nd a lot of work.

[She shrugs, stirring her drink.] It seems like a natural progression to me. But they're also not my powers. If you can't do it, you can't, and there's no shame in that. But it's maybe something to try. And the force field business. That sounds useful!

Oui, that it.

Talkin' 'bout force fields, to a sense, ya own. Those barriers ya can use, they not 'ctually objects, non? Projected thought. So means they couldn't be charged, right? That might come in useful, if I get over my head 'nd can't control a charge.
