[Drift Fleet] APPLICATION

CHARACTER

Character name: Remy LeBeau.
Series name: X-Men: Evolution.
Canon notes: End of season four; episode 9, Ascension – Part 2. Luceti game history, 1+ years.

Species: Mutant.

History: Remy is an experimental creation of Mr. Sinister, who altered his own DNA to create a ‘clone’. Any possible alterations or interactions were cut short as he was kidnapped by the Thieves’ Guild from the hospital Sinister was using as a front for his experiment. Believed to be a prophesied end to the war between the Thieves’ and Assassins’/Rippers Guilds, Remy was placed in hiding within a kids street gang in New Orleans to begin his path into stealing and gain basic skills before entering the Guild. As his earliest memories are those of being in the gang, and none have spoken to him regarding the events either with Sinister or the Guild, Remy has no knowledge of his earlier life events. It was during this time on the streets he became ‘known’ to the Jean-Luc LeBeau. Having being caught trying to pickpocket from the Thief King, Remy was officially adopted in to the LeBeau family as Jean-Luc’s son and began his training in the Guild.

His adaptation to a family environment was slow at first, but helped along thanks to the bond he established with Mattie Baptiste, seeing her as a mother figure and who would go on to be one of the most important people in his life. Her influence helped to grow Remy’s confidence in himself, his new family, and the Guild, as well as moulding many of his hobbies, especially cooking. With Mattie’s encouragement he began to open up to other members of the family, gaining a strong bond to his older brother Henri, and cousins Lapin and Theo. However, possibly due to their similar ages, he and his cousin Etienne became best friends.

It wasn’t long before Remy learnt of his part in an arranged marriage to Belladonna Boudreaux, Princess of the Assassins’ Guild. Due to the inevitable outcome the two were encouraged to interact and quickly becoming friends. This led to them dating as they entered into their young teens and Remy fell completely head over heels for her, believing she would be the one and only woman he would be in love with and would have a future with once they were married. Both accepted the fact that they were destined to be together but would not given the chance for a normal life of dating or having any form of relationship with others. Due to this they held an open relationship, allowing both of them to have random short relationship or one night stands, fully confident that neither would be tempted away.

Remy’s powers began to show when he was sixteen, but he kept them secret out of fear he would be taken off missions for the Guild, instead trying to practice control over them in private. This privacy was however short lived as Etienne discovered his secret, but encouraged Remy to keep practicing and over all found his mutation exciting. During Etienne’s Tithing/initiation to the Guild they were caught and sold off to child slave trader, the Pig. During their escape Remy was forced to use his powers, injuring the Pig but also (in his mind) costing Etienne his life. The trauma of seeing his best friend’s death and seeing Etienne’s blood on his hands, Remy lost his slim grip he had on his charging, causing him to be a danger to himself and others. Terrified he would harm another with his mutation he contacted a scientist and pervious client of the Guild, Nathaniel Essex. Having previously taken part in a job to recover medical notes for Essex, Remy had learnt of the scientist’s involvement with altering mutant abilities, and while he ended up destroying the notes (seeing them as being too dangerous to exist) he believed he had no other option but to ask for his help.

With the help of Essex Remy gained perfect command of his charging abilities, but was to repay the debt by working for the doctor as his own private thief. Under his employment he learnt of Essex’s other identity, Mr. Sinister, and was brought into his team, the Marauders. As a member of this team Remy took part in many missions, most of which complimented his main purpose on the team. He also had an on and off relationship with his team mate Vertigo. During a mission that brought them up against the Morlocks, Remy was horrified to discover they were sent as assassins to kill off the mutant group. Not wanting any part in this but unable to save the majority of them, Remy was able to save one girl by the name of Marrow, hiding her away at a mutant friendly location. This acted as the final straw in Sinister’s long line of corrupt requirements, and he left his employment and returned back to New Orleans.

Determined to leave what happened under Sinister’s leadership behind him, Remy continued working for the Guild. With full control of his powers Remy found the types of jobs he was placed on had changed and began to see that the Thief King was more interested in using him as a mutant tool rather than any father-son connection. This caused him to begin to move away from Jean-Luc, creating a closer link to other family members as he questioned what exactly was his role in the Thieves. During this he was also preparing for his and Bella’s wedding. While the ceremony went off without a hitch, the Boudreaux’s plans were quickly revealed as an attempt to kill off the LeBeau family and have Bella become acting queen of the Guild. Heart broken by Bella’s betrayal and her choosing her family over him, Remy isolated himself away from contact with her or the Assassins, staying close to home with the Thieves. When another attempt against his life ended up injuring and killing several onlookers in the French Quarters, Remy decided to leave New Orleans once again, believing that if he could not be found then the Assassins would have no need to kill his family until he was found or put non-Guild members in danger.

During his travels and freelance work away from home, Remy met up Magneto and was persuaded into joining his team as both a thief and fighter, aiding in confrontations against the X-Men (series 2, episode 16/17, Day of Reckoning – 1 and 2). As an Acolyte Remy acted as a messenger between Magneto and the Brotherhood, able to deal with the boys’ attitude with a health dose of humour (compared to Pyro or Sabertooth), and be able to manipulate them into doing what Magneto wanted (compared to Piotr).

Remy still held a heavy dose of caution and distain towards his boss, particularly after seeing Magneto manipulate his daughter’s memories via Mastermind. His opinion on the berserker that is Sabertooth wasn’t much better, believing the ‘man’ needed to be locked away, or put down, for everyone’s safety. Yet he continued to play the role he was paid for, a good little soldier, trying to find some entertainment despite the situation he had gotten himself into. However, he became close friends with two of his fellow Acolytes, St. John and Piotr, at times acting as both a peacekeeper and protector between them and their boss. These two made the situation tolerable, supplying a feeling of home, if not a more chaotic (John) but calmer (Piotr) version of it. Although Remy left them to their own paths after Magneto’s ‘death’, he hoped they were at least happy with their choices.

After the ‘death’ of Magneto Remy disappeared from Bayville, returning to his life he had previously, freelancing, drinking, and sleeping around. A call from his brother (Henri) informed Remy that the Assassins had taken Jean-Luc prisoner. Despite differences between them he couldn’t leave his father, fearing the Boudreaux’ would kill him. Pushed for time, he appeared back in Bayville under the disguise of helping Rogue to get away from the mansion, taking her down to New Orleans during Mardi Gras . In reality he was using her for her powers, to find the hidden location the Rippers had taken Jean-Luc to. With Jean-Luc safe, and the X-Men returning back to Bayville, Remy has since tried to lay low on the mutant radar in New Orleans, dodging Assassin attempts and going back to working for the Guild.

NOTE: Remy has spent just over one year in Luceti during which time that:
- Is now 25 after having a very quiet birthday while in Luceti
- Had created a link with others from his universe, despite having been their enemy upon entering Luceti. This being especially strong with Jean Grey and Wanda Maximoff. Yet closest (but not always easiest) with Rogue.
- Been thrown into multiple experiments/shifts including: gender bent and deaging/aging
- Being drafted for war, dying in the process only to be brought back to life several days in the past, having killed the enemy and also influencing others to do the same.
- Had his beliefs and boundaries pushed and questioned, making him rethink his view on others about using for their powers/skills instead of seeing them as a person.
- Has had the limitations put on him by Sinister removed, unlocking his powers to full strength and had started training how to control them and use them in new ways.

Personality: Remy is all about being mysterious, he likes to appear out of nowhere and vanish just the same. He is capable of hiding behind many masks, depending what the situation calls for, and very rarely allows them to drop to let anyone see what is hidden inside. The main side he allows to show is that of a kidder, always ready with a joke or innuendo for any situation. Flirting, smoking, drinking, sex, and just enjoying life and all of its sins works hand in hand with this mask, especially if there is some money to be made out of it, and a thrill of a tough steal to give him his latest fix.

Getting past all the charades hides a serious man, one closely devoted to his family and friends, willing to sacrifice himself and his happiness to keep them safe. He’s a sucker for a damsel or child in distress, and while he will lend a hand and always stand at the back of a friend who needs help, Remy himself is sick of ugly confrontations and would rather run and leave his own situations behind him than deal with the fallout. He is a person set on thinking in the here-and-now rather than planning out the future, partly due to the belief he is a dead man walking due to all the targets on his back, but also with to how his plans for a wife and family was crushed previously. This mind set only encourages his life of sin and pleasure, as well as an attitude that a lot of the time makes him appear as a jerk who only thinks of himself. Such an attitude is enforced by his distrust in others, having been stabbed one too many times in the back, so he is never without an escape plan and ready to get up and leave at a moments notice.

Though he was unknowingly led down the path to becoming a thief, Remy adores his job. It opens up a world of fun for him, always looking for the next big steal that will challenge his abilities, as well as giving him a chance to act like a kid in his favourite playground. Combined with his mutant abilities and Remy is armed with an arsenal that others in his field lack, and he takes great pride and more than a little inflation to his ego that he is the best at what he does. This cockiness he gains from his work and mutation, mixed with his outgoing social life and status of a ‘lady’s man’, can at times need someone to bring him back down to earth. For this reason he likes to surround himself with people who understand he can be full of hot air and know not to take his joking or claims to fame too serious.

In comparison to his full on night life of excess and stealing, his down time is normally spent trying to relax and act out as normal a life as he can. This includes hobbies such as cooking, reading, videogames with friends, and maintaining his current selection of motorbike. However, as with any adrenaline junkie, he is always on the look out for the next thrill, from driving too fast on his bike, to casually pick pocketing or shoplifting from random locations. Such acts are more about the actions themselves than the reward, as his bank account is already well funded, and in generally he doesn’t splash out on large costs.

Thanks to his Tante, Remy was raised on a mixture of Catholic and voodoo practices, and while he adheres to some of the latter he has completely turned his back on the church. He holds no love to a god who has made him suffer as much as he has, and is more willing to put his trust behind charms and practices he has seen work with his own eyes. For this reason he tries to carry some sort of good luck charm/gris gris within his jacket at all times, and holds a healthy respect for the world of the supernatural and tries to avoid angering it as much as possible.

Abilities:
Strengths
Physical: Remy’s mutant abilities allow him to charge an item with kinetic energy and cause it to explode. The item can be organic or not, and can range in size, from a playing card to a double-decker bus. He shows incredible flexibility for someone of his build, preferring to use it along with leverage and balance to win a fight rather than brute strength. Because of his powers and combat training he is comfortable at both long and close range, but prefers to fight at a distance and rely on his powers to win.

His training to infiltrate almost any structure leaves him very confident on his feet, able to climb difficult surfaces with little struggle provided there is some form of hand and foot hold. Combining this with speed and some rather gymnastic movements allows him to cover a large amount of space in a short time despite most obstacles in his way, akin to what is found with pakour. While he holds no official hand-to-hand combat training, he is confident enough in regards to targets such as Wolverine and Sabertooth, skilled in stave/bo-staff and knives.

Due to his Tante Mattie, Remy is a skilled cook, specializing towards more tradition Cajun foods. For this reason, he is pretty skilled with a knife in both the kitchen and in battle, including a few tricks Bella taught him. Due to his use of ammunition, as well as training, Remy is skilful in sleight of hand movements, making him highly likely to win while playing cards, especially if he is allowed to deal. Remy’s body temperature is higher than the average person, and while this means he doesn’t get affected by cold as much, he still had a dislike for snow and the cold.

NOTE: As Remy has under gone surgery to remove the limitations Sinister had put on him while he was in Luceti, thus altering his powers. He produces more energy than he did before and has been training in areas to help him control it;
The primary one of these is a kinetic barrier he can put up around his body. For now it is only there as a means to burn off excess energy, eventually it will act as a shield against attacks making contact with his skin. Upon touching it others will note the increase in temperature and also receive static shocks off it. High emotions and need to expelling extra energy at times may create a ‘crackling’ sound from the barrier and visually spark at times (primarily from his hands).
Future training will include (from most used to least used):
- Maintaining a charge in an item without it exploding as long as he had contact in it (ex. charging his bo staff with energy).
- Ability to charge liquids and gases.
- Charging an item through line of sight and without the need for physical contact.
- Teleportation as energy.
Along with these the increase in his powers his appearance is also altered when he is using high amount of energy, (mainly in fighting) creating excess kinetic energy/glow comes from his eyes, making them appear the same colour as his charges.

Mental: Though he has no official schooling, this was done all in house within the Guild. He holds an equivalent to graduating high school, as well as further knowledge on a number of fields due to the items he steals, especially art and craftsmanship of jewelry. Remy is completely fluent in French and knows a handful of lines in other languages to generally pass through a crowd and to deal with foreign clients. Thanks to his training as a master thief his is skilled in areas that include; lock picking, pick pocketing, safe cracking, security system infiltration, etc. Pretty quick on his feet, he can at least fake his way through most conversations, even if he doesn’t understand the topic, using a healthy dose of confidence to make up for lack of knowledge.

Emotional: For the most Remy appears pretty stable, and this is primarily because he shoves all his negative emotions and memories back and refuses to deal with them, hoping they will stay in the past. He allows only the side he wants to show, a confident and cocky individual who has everything completely controlled in his life. Remy allows his ego and outgoing personality to take front stage, finding that these are safe versions of himself to fall back on and that most expect to see from him.

Due to his upbringing Remy’s moral compass can sway violently, having no problem with stealing from those who can afford it but frowns upon needless violence and death, unless it’s absolutely necessary or in self-defense. This want to avoid violence can alter if confronted with those who have caused him pain in the past, particularly Mr. Sinister and Bella’s brother, Julian. Despite his reputation as a lady’s man Remy has been brought up in the belief to try and respect women and he aims never to lead on those who he has a one night stand with, making sure they understand it will not lead to a relationship. But once again there is exceptions to this, but only when it comes to getting a job done. He is also very secure in his own sexuality, to a point where to get the job done, or even just for a laugh at another’s expense, he will flirt and put the moves on men as well as women.

Weaknesses
Physical: Currently for his powers to work Remy must have physical contact with the item he is charging, however it is not limited to his hands and he can charge via any part of his body. Depending on his choice of ammo, the environment will affect it (series 3, episode 9, Under Lock and Key). Cards, while lightweight and plentiful, can easily be affected by wind currents and once in flight cannot change angles, unless he has placed a spin on them to make them curve. The power he puts into his charge can also affect how his ammo is used, too little and it can fizzle out without any true damage, too much and he risks hurting himself if it explodes before he can get clear of it. The larger the item the greater the chance he will catch himself in the blast radius.

With the unlocking of his powers in Luceti Remy's biggest concern now is maintaining his powers in a safe fashion, not letting too much leak out but also burning up enough so not to turn himself into a living bomb.

A number of previous injuries have taken a toll on his body over the years, as well as his choice of lifestyle. He has a rather reliant need for nicotine, and no doubt has done some damage to his liver due to nights of binge drinking. His left shoulder can cause him trouble due to it being dislocated several times in the past, meaning he has to be more cautious of his actions than with his other arm. His hands have several faded burn marks, created from the time when he lacked control over his mutation, as well as a scar hidden under his hair from Sinister’s correction to his mutation. He is cautious of injuries to his face, partly out of vanity, but also due to having his nose and other face bones repaired/re-straightened several times after rather nasty fights, leaving the structures weaker and less likely to take surgery again to return back to their normal position.

Mental: Stimulation is an important part of his life and Remy must have something to keep himself occupied before he starts becoming an annoyance to others around him. This is particularly related to a physical activity, but mental stimulation can occupy him for a brief time before he has to find something more sustaining to do. It is in the moments when he is bored that he tends to do dumb things, either physical stunts or letting his mouth run off without thinking first. At times he can act very immature, normally sparked on by others such as his cousins and friends, or being around kids. He lacks a general tendency to think ahead in most elements of his life; willing to rush into battle and make up a plan as he goes along, not thinking about consequences of who he takes to bed, or how much he will be in pain the day after a night of heavy drinking. Once again, the exception comes with his work, preferring to have plenty of time and information on a steal and dislikes running in blind. He may be headstrong, but not stupid or suicidal.

Remy has been a victim of a psychic attack, used as a tool to steal an artifact from Warren Worthington while under the mind control of Mesmero (series 3, episode 9, Under Lock and Key). Having limited time around telepaths (or at least ones he believes there is no defense against [Mr. Sinister]), he hasn’t been overly concerned with trying to guard his mind, instead using tactics of thinking of disturbing images or stories to make them less likely to try and see what he is thinking.

Emotional: Remy is plagued by self-doubt, especially since he thinks he is paying for the sins he has committed in the past, and expects no happy ending for him or white light when he dies. If life seems too good for too long he believes it is time to move on, that it is too good to be true and that it will all fall down on him and leave him hurt again. This has kept him from getting close to any woman, Bella’s betrayal enforcing his views that all he can rely on is short relationships before moving on. It is something he refuses to address, keeping those thoughts hidden, and when they do appear, typically drowns them in alcohol and sex.

He also has a tendency to get a bit prideful and really needs to be around people who can beat him back down to earth and prevent his ego from getting out of hand. Remy is capable of being more than a little vain, with a habit of spending maybe a bit too much time primping in the bathroom in the mornings, as well as exercise gym, using the excuse it’s to keep him fit for work.

Previous jobs have plagued Remy with guilt. He blames himself for not being able to stop the harm brought against the Morlocks, and that he couldn’t help Marrow as much as he wanted to. Guilt that he did not stop the brainwashing of Wanda Maximoff by Mastermind, knowing he should had stepped forward to stop it but not wanting to gain Magneto’s wrath (series 3, episode 7, The Toad, the Witch, and the Wardrobe). Also the pain he has brought to his family by not being there when they need him.

Augment Skillset: Tactical support.

Sample: Ya know, before all this merde with this place ‘nd the one I had been in before… didn’t really take too seriously to the whole alien thing. ‘nd, ya know, meanin’ from other worlds, not other countries, clearly know those existed before. Aliens were something from sci fi ‘nd bad tabloids that tell ‘bout the couple that met while gettin’ probed on a space ship after were droppin’ acid back in the 70s or some merde. Trashy junk to sell trashier magazines filled with little grey men from Mars or something stupid like that. ‘nd that be comin’ from a world full of super powered bein’s. Still can’t believe some of the stuff mutants can do, let ‘lone findin’ out that oui, by the way, yeah there are aliens, ‘nd yeah they like to abduct people. Though the whole reality tv show thing be not what I was ‘xpectin’… which is a hell of a lot better to the ‘lternative. Though if there is probin’ later to come, hope they at least buy me a drink first ‘nd use plenty of lube, it only fair.
